"Wings" by Chris Childers

$35.00

an original poem as a charming wedding toast

LOVE MAKES THE WORLD go 'round. And cylinder presses, too. With the romantic comedy The Princess Bride as its inspiration, Chris wrote this poem to be a wedding gift and a toast to the bride & groom (his brother).

At Lead Graffiti, we used it as an opportunity to hand set its unusual format, one of many types of concrete (or visually shaped) poetry. We chose the Codex typeface because of its crisp, yet airy, calligraphic feel. The font is part of the Gingerly Press collection, where we had admired it, and fellow (fella?) printer Lindsay graciously loaned it to us for the project.

To accompany the lightness of the words, we used a pair of especially nice copperplate feathers. We hand rolled the feathers in 6 different pastel inks to echo the dove feather and the wings mentioned in the poem.

This is just one of those lovely excuses to put ink on paper that just falls out of the sky. And we all printed happily ever after.
